Rootbeer was one of our original flavors when we first started experimenting with bitters. We were using sassafras, a tree bark used in the flavoring of traditional rootbeer. However, because of its high levels of safiola (which is an oil present in many spices), the FDA prohibited us from ultimately licensing our recipe. Because we are not legally allowed to make our original recipe, and have yet to find a replacement to meet our high standards, we will not be offering roobeer bitters at this time. If the restrictions on sassafras change, you can be certain we’ll once again offer our rootbeer flavor!
